Born around 1530 on the wild Connaught coast she was trained by her father, Dubdhara, a formidable sailor and chieftain of Murrisk and the clan O’Malley. Well known as the Pirate Queen of Ireland she fought the English, was captured, then released and met with Queen Elizabeth I to bargain for peace which she received.
